Since 2021, Vaishnavi has been developing "The Ladies Compartment”, a project documenting women-only train sections in Mumbai. What began as a calming exercise during commutes evolved into an archive of care, humour, exhaustion, and resilience within these intimate public spaces. Through quick urban sketches and longer watercolour studies, they aim to archive the emotional architecture of these spaces, including the gossip, the arguments, the temporary naps, and the unspoken solidarities. Women and children frequently appear as active participants in city life, not mere symbols. By centring these figures, Vaishnavi offers a soft yet grounded critique of who occupies space, who is expected to move silently, and what it means to be seen.
