Deepika’s upcoming retro Bollywood-inspired album ‘Qisse कल Ke’ takes on a new life through a live show of the same name. Blending music, poetry and storytelling, the experience unfolds as a semi-autobiographical journey of hope - moving through love, heartbreak and inevitable personal growth. At its heart, it traces the inner world of a woman learning to dream without restraint and love without apology, even when there’s a price to pay - all set against the backdrop of modern-day life in Mumbai.
The visual world of the album draws from retro Bollywood leading ladies like Madhubala, Meena Kumari and Waheeda Rehman. Deepika has long been drawn to the brave complexities these iconic women carried - an ability to hold both softness and strength in a newly independent yet deeply patriarchal India. They loved fearlessly, endured publicly and still arrived luminous on the big screen - carrying entire worlds behind their eyes. In many ways, they were quiet revolutionaries who shaped what it meant to be a woman who dared to feel, to want and to dream in the years to follow.
Sonically, the album leans into textures that feel lived in - with strings, horns & warm analogue tones. There is a sense of nostalgia woven through the melodies & the writing stays rooted in Deepika’s love for ghazals and Urdu poetry. ‘Qisse कल Ke’ is imagined like a modern-day baithak; an engaging listening experience where the audience is invited to slow down, and sit with the stories and emotions that each song carries.
